How much do you charge?

the three c’s charges $32 an hour for proofreading and $42 an hour for copy editing. There is no minimum fee.

How long will it take you to copy edit/proofread my document?

We’re happy to provide a time and cost estimate for your project in writing. This estimate represents the maximum time and cost for your project; in other words, we won’t exceed this deadline or budget without prior written approval from you.

What types of software do you use?

We copy edit documents using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes and Comments functions or Adobe Acrobat’s markup tools. We proofread using your choice of Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or plain, old-fashioned paper.

Which style manuals do you use?

the three c’s uses your choice of stylebooks, including The Chicago Manual of Style or The Associated Press Stylebook.

How do I know if you’re any good?

Good question. We can show you, by proofreading or copy editing a 250-word sample, or we can provide you with professional references from clients with projects similar to yours. If you have any concerns specific to your project, let us know. We’ve been doing this for a long time.

Do you provide on-site services?

The short answer: yes. The fine print: only if you’re located in Washington state, Oregon, or Colorado.

Does the three c’s offer substantive-editing or writing services?

No, but we know somebody who does, and boy, is she good. Her name is Linden Gross, and you can contact her via her Web site.
